Quick Update

Hello Everyone,

Sorry for the delayed posting, but with school in session there's not a lot of extra time. In fact I need to go to bed here pretty quickly because, like everyday, I need to get up at 5:30 for class tomorrow.

You might think this sounds rough, but the morning is one of my favorite parts of the day. A new day with lots of potential and at 5:30 you get to see a beautiful sunrise. To the right is the view I have every morning from my bedroom window.

Things are good at home. Mario's brother, Olman moved in with us (middle) and Angela, fellow volunteer (7th and 8th grade English teacher) and neighbor is spending a lot of time at our house.
She is practicing her Spanish with Olman and he is practicing English with her.

So what's happening at school? Well this past week was Angela's birthday and so the 8th graders threw her a surprise party.

They had cake and food and everything.
(right) Here are the 8th graders...cuidado (careful)... they are friendlier from a distance.

That was Friday, and for the weekend that followed Angela wanted to do something special for her birthday since it was her 30th. So we had planned to go to Tegus, in part to celebrate, but also buy bus tickets for our upcoming trip to Nicaragua (more that to come). Here is Angela and I at El Patio in Tegus for dinner on Friday night.

It was a lot of fun, especially with the Mariachi band.

The next day, we went to a national park, La Tigra (the Tiger), outside of Tegus for some hiking.

It was a long hike (10 miles at least), but beautiful. Here's the bridge where we ate lunch.

This is Carlos, a bilingual Honduran that we hiked with. He is finishing up his last year of university as an architecture major.

The park was way above Tegus. Here's the view we had at the end of the day.

The next day we checked out the Cathedral in Tegus, bought our tickets for Nicaragua and headed back to Juti. It was a great little weekend get away after being with, at times, infuriating junior high students.
All and all, school is a challenge, the water is usually running, people are wonderful and things are good.
Hope all is well with you. Hasta proximo vez.
