Another blog post long overdue, but better late than never. Last winter during our our 2014/2015 Sonoma Academy Intersession I was asked to co-chaperone a language acquisition trip to Costa Rica with another teacher and ten or so of our students for a little less than two weeks. It was an amazing experience as you will see why in what follows.
We took four hours of language classes for eight days. Coincidentally this took place in the same town (Monteverde) and language school (CPI) that I went to in the summer of 2008 right after graduating college when I independently decided to explore Costa Rica. My language has come a long way since that first trip when I couldn't even spell my name!
Not only did we spend time learning the language of Costa Rica but also how to cook authentic tican dishes ...
and we experienced tican culture by living with host families. Here are my host parents Martha y Humberto. Humberto and I share a passion for running.
We also learned about Comercio Justo y Sostenibilidad (fair trade and sustainability) for two days while visiting Life Monteverde.
We particularly learned about their coffee production business ...
while participating in their sustainable practices.
We also took some time to just have fun like at Isla Tortuga (Turtle Island) where we enjoyed the beach and snorkeled.
Perhaps most importantly we spent time bonding with each other...
in a beautiful country.
¡Pura Vida!
